Hello!  I'm brenda lee - the artist, the master mind, the owner & operator of the Gypsy Owl Art Co.

 So what do I do?

I am currently working on trying to set up an Etsy shop.

I teach private art lessons in my home.

I am part of DecoArt's Blogger Outreach Program.

I also participate in several online Art Challenges:

30 Days of Lists - a daily mini journaling/listing prompt twice a year for 30 days.

Summer of Color - an annual 6 week art challenge with fabulous color prompts

*Unfortunately 2015 was the last year for SoC.

The Documented Life Project - a 52 week (1 whole year's worth) challenge of art journaling prompts & challenges designed to stretch your creative wings.

I have been an artist most of my life.  Really, I've been an artist for as long as I can remember and according to my mom - longer than that.  I make art because it makes me happy.  I make the kind of art that makes me happy.  And of course, that makes me happy!  Happy happy happy!!!  I'm sorry - I couldn't help it!

I'm not a big fan of writing anything about myself personally.  I really dislike writing my own "about me" sections.  It feels so bleh.  So instead, I have decided to borrow a concept I found on another blog and instead give you 118 strange, possibly interesting, and random things about me.  Because why wouldn't you want to know 118 things about a complete stranger?

  1. I can only write in stream of consciousness.  I am aware that there are other writing styles out there, but my brain can only compute and make sense of this one style.
  2.  As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner was the first story I ever read that was written like that.  It stuck and I've never been able to do anything else.  Also, that was one creepy story.  But I still love it.
  3. My brain works in strange ways.  I'll be talking and all of a sudden, the hamster that runs on my "brain wheel" will just fall off and I will stop mid sentence.  The thought occasionally comes back but not often.  That's one tired hamster.
  4.  I got to own my first hamster when I was grown and moved in with a guy for the first time.  I had Chinese dwarf hamsters.  They were adorable, but the cage was awful.  I can't even begin to tell you how much money I spent on all those damn tubes, but I had them going all around the room.
  5.  I briefly had a true hamster!  This one was huge.  I was scared to death of him.  His name was "D-O-G" (pronounced spelled out) because he was as big as a chihuahua.
  6. Mice freak me out.  Rats (even the little ones) will send me into a hyperventilating case of the vapors.
  7. You've never seen me spaz out properly until you see me when I've spied a snake.  I don't care if it's three inches long.  I have mistaken earthworms for snakes.  Poor worms.
  8. Don't get me started on spiders.  Just as bad as snakes.
  9. When I was little I was afraid of heights.  Then I had a friend who made me climb to the top of a football press box to get over my fear.  It worked.  Until I was 28.  Then for some irrational reason I became very afraid again.
  10.  I don't like real Chinese food.  I'm picky about my egg rolls and mayonnaise crab.  I also eat Seafood Delight - but only the shrimp and crab.  Yep, I'm the b**** that picks out all the good stuff and leaves the junk behind.  Sorry about that.
  11. I'm a pizza traditionalist.  Meat and cheese only.  You can keep your veggies.
  12. I love veggies.  But not eggplant or peppers.
  13. I only like ranch dressing you can get at restaurants.  Not the kind from fast food joints or the grocery store.
  14. I love homemade bread.
  15. I can eat my body weight in bread.  And shrimp!
  16. I'm a sucker for "give-you-diabetes" sweet tea.
  17. I adore my coffee.  I like just a touch with my cream and sugar.
  18. I have an obsessive personality.  I don't just like something.  I love it!
  19. I'm awesome.  And I know it.
  20. But I don't really believe it.  I'm trying to work on that.
  21. I'm more comfortable with my elders than my peers.
  22. I'm not exactly a shy person, but I don't talk in front of people until I get to know them.
  23. I have a perpetual case of "word vomit".
  24. I love the word "I" but I don't like to admit it.
  25. I am obsessed with vintage VW Beetles.  One day I will have one.
  26. I taught myself HTML and (some) CSS.
  27. I took French and Latin in high school.
  28. I wish I still remembered them.
  29. I want to learn Gaelic.
  30. One of my favorite book series of all time is "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon.
  31. Sam Heughan is not how I pictured Jamie at all.  But the accent is wonderful.
  32. The only book that has ever made me truly want to write to the author is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
  33. I cried when I found out Betty Smith was dead.
  34. I cry at the drop of a hat.  I cry at happy commercials, cartoons, stories, books, art.  It's pitiful really.
  35. I cry automatically when I get really really angry.  I can't stop it.  I've tried.
  36. I'm a Capricorn.
  37. But I'm not good with money.
  38. I like to plan things.  I hate when my plans get changed.
  39. I'm a spontaneous "go with the flow" kind of person.  Except when I've made specific plans.
  40. I don't like surprises.
  41. I hate celebrating my birthday.  Not because of my age and getting older.  By the 4th of January, I'm broke and usually sick.
  42. I'm addicted to Pinterest.
  43. I have ten unfinished canvases on my walls.
  44. I adore shoes.  I love looking at them, trying them on, buying them, wearing them, and having them.
  45. I only wear flip flops and converse with any regularity.
  46. I love fashion.
  47. I only wear jeans and t-shirts unless otherwise forced.
  48. I'm too lazy to wear makeup and do my hair.  Seriously.  I might pull out the stops 4 or 5 times a year.
  49. I live in messy buns.
  50. I never blow dry my hair.  If put it up wet and don't take it down to let it dry, it will be wet 2 days later.
  51. I love historical period movies.
  52. I despise horror movies.  And I'm not much of a fan of action/adventure either.
  53. I should have been born 1000 years ago.  I'm serious.
  54. I would have loved to have been a pirate.
  55. I'm afraid of sharks.
  56. I will never go on a cruise.  I saw Titanic.  It happens.
  57. I love to swim.
  58. I'm a gadget nerd.  But don't ask me to plug your game console into your dvd player, plus a surround sound and tv and make it all work.  It won't happen.
  59. I'm a klutz.  Walls have a bad habit of jumping out at me.
  60. I love Alice in Wonderland.  At age 30, I am reading the book for the first time.
  61. I have two daughters.  They are eleven years apart.
  62. I pop my neck a lot.  I pop all my joints a lot.  If I don't, it hurts.  I know it's bad for me but I can't stop.
  63. I'm comfortable in clutter.
  64. Every now and then the cleaning bug will bite me full on the butt and I will spend hours cleaning.  I'm talking about every nook and cranny.  I've been known to snip carpet fibers and wipe baseboards.
  65. I knew every color in the Crayola 64 box by name before I was three.
  66. Fudge is my weakness.
  67. I love watching Law & Order SVU.  But not the new ones - since Stabler left I don't like it as much.
  68. I watch documentaries on YouTube.
  69. I genuinely have an eclectic taste in music.
  70. I love to cook.
  71. Kibbeh is my favorite dish of all times.
  72. I'm half Lebanese.
  73. I speak little to no Arabic.  I read it none at all.
  74. I'm 5'2" on a good day.
  75. I'm adopted.
  76. I sing in the car.  Loudly and very badly.  Don't judge me.
  77. The older I get, the more I sleep.  When I was a kid, it was nothing for me to sleep a couple of hours only and be bursting with energy.  Now, my body will naturally sleep for 9+ hours.
  78. I am a terrible grouch if woken up before my alarm goes off.
  79. I'm an adrenaline junkie.

  84. I was born in Denver.
  85. Mississippi really isn't that bad.
  86. If you haven't lived here your whole life, you will never acclimate to the heat and humidity.
  87. I wish I had a Cajun accent.
  88. I can never ever find a proper pen or pencil when I need to write something down.  Markers, crayons, paint, 6H pencils a-plenty, but never a proper pen.
  89. I'm already going grey.  But not a wrinkle in sight!
  90. I have one tattoo.  On my left foot.
  91. I want more ink.
  92. I used to have a lot of body piercings.  Only my ears now.  Three holes in each and a fourth in one.
  93. I want to get my nose re-pierced.
  94. I use exclamation points excessively.  I cannot help it.

  104. I've played Neopets since 2000.
  105. I adore owls.  I adored them before they were cool.

  114. My favorite number is 5.
  115. I've broken my nose 5 times.
  116. When I started high school, I tried to get everyone to call me by my middle name.  It didn't work because I'd had the same classmates since kindergarten.
  117. I dropped my last name (both maiden and married) professionally years ago.  My maiden name is too hard to spell/pronounce (though extremely unique - as in I am the only person to hold that name in the entire world - literally, I've checked) and my mother-in-law is a crafter and has the same first name as me.  It makes life very confusing sometimes.
  118. I write my name in all lower case because I adored e.e.comings in junior high.
