Art Challenge: Self Portrait

Journal Prompt:  Mirror Mirror

I know that Self Portraits are a staple of painters everywhere.  Most particularly the ones that paint figures of course.  I even know that my favorite of all time artist, Uncle Vincent (when you've studied him as much as I have, he really becomes one of those weird crazy uncles we all have), painted over thirty self portraits.  But I am not a huge fan.  Though, I can in fact put my hand on three self portraits in my studio at this moment.  I finally decided to bite the bullet and stop being such a scard-cat and took some selfies to go by.  Yeah, I could've used a mirror.  I'm lazy and my cell phone was inches away.

I sketched out my face and used Neocolors and Inktense pencils to color.  As my husband pointed out, the blue shading makes me look "older" but I showed him the picture I used and he said "Oh.  Well according the the picture it's done right, then."  Ha ha!  I guess that's what I get for taking a selfie with no make up on/ bright studio lights, an unruly mass of hair, and when I was tired!

The background is Black and Prussian Blue neocolors.  I've used this combination before and I love the subtle changes and the darkness it gives.  I used some of my own handmade stencils for the dashes and triangles using black and white Dylusions paints.

I added an appropriate and thought provoking quote by Napoleon Hill using my Uni-Ball Signo pen and called this one done.  I really don't think anything else needed to be added.

So that's me.  In a nutshell.  Late at night when I'm tired and don't really want to do something.  My hubby says he can definitely tell.  me, well, I don't think I quite look like that but then again, it was drawn from life as near as I could get so I guess I do look like that.  Interesting.

Y'all have a great week and I'll see you next time!
