Art Challenge:  Stitching

Journal Prompt:  "All that I'm after is life full of laughter."

The only thing I can do is sing Daughtry's lyrics every single time I read this week's journal prompt.  I love that song.

I started this page with a background of Dylusions Ink Sprays.  I then used some homemade stencils and added the triangles in White Linen Dylusions Ink Spray, the teal sparkly triangles with Color Shine, the what do you call those? - bumps?  humps?  lady lumps?  with Turquoise Dylusions Paint, the small dashes with Black Marble Dylusions Paint, and the long dashes with White Linen Dylusions paint.  I then used Color Shine in Tinsel for the drips.

Now let me tell you about the debacle of "stitching".  I wanted to actually use my sewing machine and do really cool stitching on some paper and canvas for this page.  I however did not want to stitch actually into the the pages themselves because I didn't want stitching on my previous and next spreads.  So I pulled out a couple of pieces from my stash - the peacock is a bookmark I'd made ages and ages ago, the scrap of pink was from someone who'd actually stitched on it already, the girl is a stamp from Unity Stamp Co, the bit of canvas with the crown is from my stash, and the canvas ribbon is also from my stash.  I used Dylusions Paint in Crushed Grape through another homemade stencil for the purple triangles.  All of these pieces I took through my sewing machine and did simple "border" stitching.  I'm not up to doing anything super fancy.  I glued everything down using matte medium.

I stamped the words using Dylusions Alphas and of course outlined them with my Uniball pen.  I used a Stabilo pencil to make the black triangle doodles.

I like how even though it is a two page spread, each page can be taken individually.  I learned a lot with this week's challenge though - that's for sure!  I learned how to operate that dang sewing machine I've had sitting in the box for years.  I may not be up to fancy stitching but I can send some paper and even a little fabric through and not botch the whole thing up!

Well that's my share for the week.  I'll catch up with you next week!

Until then,
