Art Challenge:  Fabric

Journal Prompt:  The Fabric of Your Life

This is a retro-active post.  Just so you know.  I got caught up in May and June (and July and August) with moving house - packing, unpacking, moving, running out of boxes, getting more boxes (you get the idea!), getting my oldest daughter set up in a new school, my husband's job, my job, and setting up a brand new studio space.  All that ate up the majority of my time as you can well imagine.  Because of my lack of creative time I have fallen terribly terribly behind with the DLP.  Now that things have finally settled down (in the middle of September), I am starting to go back and do all of these journal pages that I'm behind on.  By the end of 2015 my goal is still to have that journal completely filled and bursting at the seams with this project!  I refuse to just let it sit unfinished.  It's a habit I am really really really bad about - starting a project and then not finishing it.  I refuse to do that this year!

Anyway!!!

So this page is all about texture.  Well I love texture!  But fabric.  Not so much.  I did teach myself how to thread and sew some pretty awful lines of stitching on my sewing machine but that's as far as it goes.  And because I don't sew or use fabric in any other way, I don't have a whole lot of it around.  I made do with what I had in my stash - burlap (that's a fabric!!!!), a canvas heart tag, and a muslin (?) bag.  The prompt was "the Fabric of Your Life".  Well, all I can hear in my head is the commercial "Cotton is the fabric of our lives".  Muslin and canvas are made of cotton and burlap is made of jute.  I use both regularly in my art and live in the South (hello King Cotton).  I think that justifies the fabric choices!

I used the muslin bag to hold a slip of paper with a very relevant quote.  Love how it looks and feels.  Should be interesting working on the subsequent pages with that sort of bulk.  I'll let y'all know how it goes!

I used a wide variety of media on this page - various shades of pinks and mint green from Americana, gelatos, Dina Wakley paints, Dylusions paints, Distress Inks, Stabilo All pencil, Uni Ball Signo 207 black gel pen, Liquitex Paint Marker, archival stamping ink, black paint pen, Uni Ball Signo white gel pen, and matte medium.

Stamps and stencils used are from Unity Stamp Co., Tim Holtz, Dylusions, Heidi Swapp, and handmade.  There is a lot going on in this page!

Well there you go!  A very bright and funky page.  I'm headed out the door... hopefully next week I can get another page (or two) caught up!

Have a great weekend y'all!
