Art Challenge:  Watercolors

Journal Prompt:  It's Water Under the Bridge

This week's challenge was to use watercolors.  While I don't dislike watercolors at all, I chose to use a variety of water-soluble media (which is all watercolors are anyway) instead.

I started my background by using Faber-Castell Gelatos® in blue shades.  I smeared them with a baby wipe and had to go over them a couple of times to get the intensity I wanted.  It made for a lovely blue watery background.

I really wasn't feeling the whole "bridge" thing but was totally feeling the whole "water" thing!  It's getting really hot and humid here in ol' Mississippi (can we say 89 degrees in April?!!!!) and I am seriously jonesing for a trip to the beach.  So as my muses took over, this lovely little mermaid emerged.

I'm very proud of myself!  I'm getting quite brave about doing faces!  Why my mermaid has bubblegum pink hair, I could not tell you.  Ask the muses!

I used acrylic for the base pink on her hair, lips, the shell, and her body.  The scales and swirls are also done with acrylics.  Everything else was done with Gelatos® and Inktense pencils.    I used a wave stencil by Recolections and Dylusions Ink Spray in Vibrant Turquoise on the background and then smeared a little Teal acrylic here and there.

My standard Uni-Ball signo gel pen and a white paint pen finished everything off with highlights and words.  The sea is calling and my inner voice is screaming to go!  Maybe I can work a trip in this summer!

I hope y'all have had a great weekend!!!
