Supply Saturday Ed. 2 - White Pens

Hi y'all!  Welcome to another edition of Supply Saturday.  Today we're talking about White Pens!  How important is a good white pen in your art these days?  I know that I have to keep a steady supply of them for myself.  I use them for everything - from doodles and journaling to highlights and zentangles.  It's important to have a good one and it's important to know which ones are good.

I have tried dozens of white pens and here is a little comparison of the ones I still have floating around in my studio.  I wrote out this list on black artist tiles (the ones you can buy for zentangle) and not over black acrylic but all of these pens perform the same way over paint.

My absolute favorite pens hands down are #3 and #4.  The Uni-Ball Signo pens are simply the best out there for opacity and the ability to write over anything.  I know a lot of folks use the Sharpie paint pens with great success.  I haven't tried the water based ones yet but I have the worst luck in the world when it comes to white paint pens.  The Sharpies will work just fine that very first time and then it's all over from there.  I have had excellent success with the Painters Paint Pen by Elmers.  I picked it up in Walmart one day just to give it a try and fell in love.  Cheap and works every time.  Except, of course, when you run out of ink!!!

I keep a White Pitt Pen which is more marker than pen in my stash because it's india ink and great for smudgy highlights on non-porous surfaces.

The Ranger Inksentials pens are a bit of a controversy.  I have heard nothing but bad things about them.  I had a 2 pack on hand already and put them through a few tests.  While not great, my pens work ok.  Not as opaque as I like and they will skip some, for me they're ok.  I won't buy any more than the ones I already own though.

I hope this little comparison has been helpful!

Happy crafting y'all!
