"Owl" be Queen - Artist Trading Cards

Hey y'all!  I've got another ATC from another IG ATC swap!  This is a repeat of swap from last year, but it was requested again and again so Elizabeth gave in and the swap was born.  The theme is "Owls".  You can see last year's owl swap here.  I wanted to do something a little different but wasn't quite up to the challenge of painting or drawing owls.  What an excuse for a new stamp.  I trolled the internet looking for the perfect owl - there are about a million owl stamps out there but I wanted something very different and not "cutesy".  I finally found a set by Darcie's Hearth and Home called "Owl be Queen".  There is so much detail in this stamp and I knew it was perfect!

I stamped the owl and sentiment on vintage paper from a dictionary - I used pages that had no text on them - this stamp was so intricate I didn't want anything to distract from it.  I inked the edges with Vintage Photo distress ink and collaged them to the background.

The background started simply - Tea Dye distress ink smeared on my craft mat and the atc base pulled through.  I then stamped a large doily stamp (Recollections) in Wild Honey distress ink, another little lacy bit from the same stamp set in Vintage photo and then used Tim Holtz's Burlap stencil and sprayed Roll Top Desk Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist.  Of course I wasn't finished.  I stamped the curlicue stamp from the Owl be Queen set in Walnut Stain and added washi tape.  It may have started simply but got complicated quickly.  Still, I love the vingate-y feel to the whole card.

The sentiment is probably my favorite and I'm sure will be showing up again.

Until next time, happy creating!
