Preparing for the Documented Life Project 2015

I'm so excited to be involved in the Documented Life Project this year.  A dear friend of mine gifted me the Dylusions Journal for Christmas and I've set about making it a beautiful place to house this year's DLP.

I finally had a day off from work and was able to sit down and make as big a mess as I wanted - let me just insert here that I do a lot of my art while at work - I get tons of ATCs done while I'm slaving away.  What can I say?  I'm a fairly talented multi-tasker!  But I try to save the extra messy stuff - when I'm planning on using a lot of acrylic paint especially - for home.

Looking at the pristine cover of my new journal I had no idea how I wanted it to look.  I had a vague idea of a couple of colors I wanted to use, but nothing more.  Which is usually how I paint.  I fake it until I make it and just wing it!  This method works pretty well for me.

So, with not a clue in the world, I started layering paint....

I am absolutely in love with how this turned out.  It's very much in keeping with my own personal style but taking it up to the level I've been trying to get to!  I look at other people's art journal covers and I think to myself, "boy, I sure wish I could do that" and for the first time, I look at mine and think "wow, I really did it".

I used a wide variety of materials

Acrylic Paint - Liquitex Basics, Dina Wakley Media Heavy Body Acrylic Paint, Americana by DecoArt, & Claudine Hellmuth
Gesso - Liquitex Basics
Stencils - TCW's & Dylusions
Stamps - Dylusions & Unity Stamp Co.
Black Paint Pen
Pentel Sunburst White Gel Pen
Ranger Archival Ink
Paint Brushes, Bottle top from a distress paint, brayer, sponge dabber, and mostly my own fingers

I was so inspired and had so much fun with this journal cover that I pulled out my old (and mostly unused) Dylusions Journal and repainted its cover.  But that is a post for another day!

I'm off work today so hopefully I'll be able to do the first week's challenge then!

Until then,
Make a beautiful mess!
