Hot Air Balloon Swap - Artist Trading Cards

I spend a lot of time on Pinterest.  Way more than I ought to, I'll admit.  But I love looking at cards, tags, canvases, and ATCs others have made.  Then I take a technique I've seen and try to recreate it or use it as a jumping off place.

The backgrounds for these Hot Air Balloon ATCs was just one such technique.  I have played around with Distress Ink and Stains enough now that I can spot when they're used most of the time.

Instead of blending ink on to a card and then spritzing with water, I smeared distress ink and stains over my craft mat and then added the water.  By laying the card in that puddle repeatedly, it gives a different sort of blend - more watercolor-like.  Then I spritzed with water for an additional texture.

I added a script stamp in the background and the hot air balloons.  I smeared more distress ink on my craft mat and used a water brush to pick up the ink to paint in the balloons.  I stamped a quote and added bits of rub-ons.

These cards were really very simple to make but I love the blues and purples so much that I definitely see myself using this technique (and color scheme) again.

Materials Used:

Distress Inks - Salty Ocean, Tumbled Glass, Dusty Concord, Gathered Twigs
Distress Stains - Chipped Sapphire, Broken China
Stamps - Hampton Art Doodlebug "Hot Air Balloon"
Stamps - Tim Holtz Clear Stamp Visual Artistry (script) "Urban Grunge" and (quote) "Thoughts and Phrases"
Tim Holtz - Idea-Ology - Remnant Rubs Rub Ons - "Elements"
