A Not Quite Finished Friday

Good morning all.  It's really early and I haven't had my coffee yet, but since I've gotta run in less than an hour, I wanted to go ahead and post this morning.

This week's assignments were (are):

1) Draw somewhere you'd like to vacation in 1 point perspective.
2) Draw somewhere different you'd like to vacation in 2 point perspective.

3) Chose one and paint it.

I think I've actually posted this before.  My last post, if I recall correctly, contained reference photos for a couple of ideas.  I'm pretty sure I scrapped each and every one of those reference photos!

Instead, I found a reference photo for a little alley of shops in Belfast, Ireland and drew this:
Reference: Belfast Ireland

My lines are a little off and I'm never quite sure how to draw large amounts of foliage and make it look decent, but I was truly tired of messing with it so I signed it and walked away!  So that's my 1 Point Perspective.

For 2 Point Perspective, I was going to draw one of those fantastic buildings in the French Quarter in New Orleans.  But, being the way I am - being a perfectionist and yet preferring a "messy" style, I just didn't have time to complete that in time.  All those windows and doors and ledges!  Not to mention the wrought iron balconies!!  So, I put that drawing aside and chose instead to take inspiration from my muse, my favorite artist of all time - my good friend and mentor: Uncle Vincent!

Because, let's face it, if you've known him as long as I have, he's Uncle Vincent.

So, my inspiration was:
Bedroom at Arles by: Vincent Van Gogh

And this is what I came up with:

This is nearly a true representation of my own bedroom.  However, I have carpet and I don't have a studio easel yet, but it will be on its way, hopefully within the next couple of weeks.  So yes, I did take a wee bit of artistic license.  But, I rather like how it's turned out.  Simple, yet effective.  The perspective is spot on (and I know this because I used a ruler) and yet it is still loose.  I added a bit more shading and darkened some more lines and added a few more details after I took this pic, but you get the idea.  And yes, those are my actual work on the walls.  You can see my value scale and 3D Shapes above my computer!

So, since this is a "vacation spot" and I use my bedroom as my art studio - in all honesty, that's the place I love to be more than any else in the world.  In my "studio" painting and creating!

Now I just have to pick one and paint.  That's not entirely true, I have picked one - the studio.  And my plan is to do it in an analogous color scheme - green, blue, and purples.  Similar to Uncle Vincents and yet a little different.  Now, if I could just get my butt up and get to painting!

I have to go watch another Extra Credit History video in less than 45 minutes.  After that, I will paint like a demon!  At least I don't have to go to work tonight.  That'll make it infinitely easier to finish painting!  When I'm done, (before midnight when it's due!), I'll post the finished product.

Until then,

Happy Friday!
